FOUR POSITIONS AVAILABLE:
Open rank, tenured or tenure-track positions in Educational Leadership beginning Fall,
2007:

  • Vacancy #F06/07-68 seeks applicants with a focus on educational leadership issues affecting diverse students in K-12 or higher education with empirical research and professional background in the leadership of schools or higher education institutions.
  • Vacancy # F06/07-69 seeks individuals with a specialization in quantitative research methods, national database analysis, policy analysis and evaluation or educational evaluation theory and design.

The successful candidates for Vacancies  #F06/07-68  and # F06/07-69 will be expected to a) teach and advise at the graduate level, primarily doctoral students, b) serve on dissertation/thesis committees, c) serve on departmental, college and university committees, d) collaborate in research development, and e) publish extensively.

  • Vacancies # F06/07-70 and  #F06/07-71 beginning Fall, 2007, with a specialization in instructional leadership, curriculum planning and design, school reform, professional learning communities, fiscal issues, legal issues, special populations administration or business management.

The successful candidates for Vacancies # F06/07-70 and #F06/07-71 will teach
predominantly master level courses in Educational Leadership and courses for principal
and superintendent certifications. Establish or continue to establish a record of successful
research and publication in the discipline. Serve as student advisor, serve on university,
college, and departmental committees, serve on thesis/dissertation committees, and
perform other tasks assigned by the department chair.

The Department of Educational Leadership, College of Education at the University of Texas – Pan American invites applications and nominations for four (4) tenure-track faculty positions beginning in Fall 2005. Individuals who have an earned doctorate in educational leadership or related discipline are invited to apply. Faculty rank and tenure are open for discussion.

The University of Texas – Pan American is (UTPA) has an enrollment of 17,000 students of which 86% are Hispanic and is one of the fastest growing universities in Texas . UTPA is located in Edinburg , Texas , a city of approximately 50,000 people and one of the many cities in the beautiful Rio Grande Valley . Specifically, Edinburg is located at the southern tip of Texas in a semi-tropical climate 230 miles south of San Antonio , approximately 70 miles west of South Padre Island and about 15 miles from the Texas-Mexico border. UTPA is part of the University of Texas System and offers degree programs through the doctorate. The college of Education (COE) has an average enrollment of approximately 3000 students. The COE offers both undergraduate and graduate programs including a doctoral program, and is recognized as one of the largest teacher preparation program in the state of Texas and the second largest bilingual teacher preparation program in the country.

Applicants must have an earned doctorate in Educational Leadership, Administration or related field. A promising record of research and scholarship is expected for applicants seeking assistant level positions and, an established record of research and scholarship and demonstrated teaching excellence are expected for applicants seeking the rank of associate or full. Experience in working with students from diverse backgrounds is desirable; university and/or public/private school teaching and administrative/leadership experience in the principalship, central office or the superintendency are preferred.

All positions include responsibilities for teaching at the UTPA Campus or at the Rio Grande City Campus, often at night, in the academic program leading to the master's degree in educational administration, the doctoral degree in educational leadership and in professional licensure programs for administrators; conducting and publishing scholarly research; serving on and/or chairing doctoral dissertation and master's thesis committees; supervising interns in field settings; providing service to departmental, college, university, and community constituencies.

Applicants with teaching and/or research experience or interest in areas as follows will be given particular attention:

  • Job Vacancy F04/05-03: research methods, statistics, school law, educational leadership, principalship, technology, curriculum development, organizational theory, and socio-cultural issues.
  • Job Vacancy F04/05-44: research methods, statistics, school law, educational leadership, technology, school finance and facilities, and socio-political context issues.
  • Job Vacancy F04/05-45: legal issues, educational policy and ethics, educational leadership, technology, economics of education, educational equity and change, school pupil personnel services, school business management issues, and educational personnel.
  • Job Vacancy F04/05-46 : statistics, research methods, data analysis, technology, organizational and leadership behavior, school finance and facilities, business management, curriculum development socio-political issues, school law and staff personnel
